Gone! I Don’t Think…

I don’t think people understand the notion of disappearance forever.

I don’t think they understand the vulnerability of rainforests to clearing, fire & drought.

I don’t think people know how rich the biodiversity of the Amazon as well as the Colombian Pacific coasts is, and how important they are for our present and future existence.

I don’t think people understand that just 100m2 of rainforest in these areas contain unique species that only exist in these small confinements, and if cleared will disappear forever.

I don’t think people understand the concept of species disappearing forever. It means that once gone, they will never come back again. Never. Gone.

I don’t think that people understand that there is no re-forestation project that can recreate these natural environments and their biodiversity.

I don’t think people understand that everything we know essentially comes from studying the natural world and its various species, whether plants or animals.

I don’t think they understand that if the species vanish then so will our scientific abilities disappear first gradually and then forever.

I don’t think people understand all of this, even when they claim they do, because they still don’t radically change the way they live their lives.

I don’t think people understand that only by changing the way they live their lives can they save the living species in our world.

But I hope that tomorrow people suddenly wake up, and stop doing everything that they do, and start changing.
